Meanwhile, the Barak Valley of Assam, Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur are virtually cut off from other states by road and rail. As many as 1.9 million people have been stranded in 26 districts of Assam. This is the second flood this season. The army has been deployed to carry out relief and rescue operations.

A 16-member rescue team is still missing while trying to rescue flood victims in Assam. The incident has raised concerns among local administrations. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Bishwasharma said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah were providing necessary assistance to deal with the situation.

Meanwhile, Tripura has received the highest rainfall in the last 60 years. The state capital Agartala was flooded last Friday due to heavy rains. Although it went down from different parts of Agartala on Saturday, there is still water in the low lying areas. As a result, human suffering has increased.

In Meghalaya, river water is flowing above the danger level in many places. Landslides are causing more damage than floods. State Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has requested the central government to help in dealing with the disaster. Congress leader Bhupen Barar alleged that the BJP was playing politics with the people of the North East for relief even in the days of disaster.
