Tourist Travel Information about Liechtenstein

The Principality of Liechtenstein is a doubly landlocked microstate in Central Europe in the Upper Rhine valley of the European Alps. The country is bordered on the east by Austria and on the south and west by Switzerland.

The terrain here is mostly mountainous, with much of the country forming part of the Alps mountain range, with the western third of the country lying in the Rhine Valley – a deep picturesque alpine valley and winter sports destination.

Vaduz is the capital of Liechtenstein, but not its largest city: Schaan is slightly larger. Still, it is home to the Prince’s castle and his museums, and the biggest tourist attraction. Liechtenstein is a modern, industrialized country whose residents enjoy one of the highest standards of living in the world.

While Liechtenstein is not a member of the European Union, the principality is part of both the Schengen Area and European Economic Area. It also has a customs union and a monetary union with Switzerland.
