Jelensky’s dream is finally coming true

War-torn Ukraine is finally set to become a member of the European Union (EU), almost four months after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In the meantime, each of the 28 members of the organization has agreed to offer membership to Ukraine.

The two-day summit, starting next Thursday, will discuss the membership of Ukraine and neighboring Moldova. “No country is opposing, we will show great unity,” Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn told a meeting of EU foreign ministers.

Meanwhile, Moscow has claimed that Russian TV has started broadcasting in Kherson, in southern Ukraine. Russia has already introduced its own currency, the ruble, in the region, and has begun issuing Russian passports to residents.

On the other hand, a Russian journalist has sold his Nobel Peace Prize for ৩ 103.5 million to help children in Ukraine who have been affected by the war. The Russian journalist’s name is Dmitry Muratov. He is the editor-in-chief of the Russian independent newspaper Novaya Gazette. Muratov was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2021 for defending freedom of expression in Russia.

And Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has claimed that Russia is planning a new attack on Kharkiv, the country’s second-largest city. From there, Moscow withdrew its forces in mid-May. News AFP, Al Jazeera.
