Mitch Duncan wants the AFL world to know Geelong's potential

There are many good teams in the Australian Football League but Geelong and its players believe that they are being overlooked again. Over the years, Geelong has endured some harsh criticism about their team. In 2022, the team does not want that to dictate their performances because they know they can reach another level with this lineup.

This includes Geelong defender Mitch Duncan who has echoed his teammates’ sentiments that their team is much improved than before. The Cats have some talented players in their squad which includes an 11-season veteran like Duncan.

There are new staff members backing the squad but the players want the rest of the AFL to be wary of their strength. It is an exciting time for Geelong fans because their players are out to prove themselves as a top team and it looks like they are ready to compete at the highest level possible.

If you’re looking for a dark horse in the 2022 AFL season, look no further than Geelong. Their team is talented and their motivation is at an all-time high. It will be disappointing if they do not perform well due to all of the affirmations that they’ve said.

Duncan feels great about a refreshed Geelong squad

After some seasons of disappointment, Geelong is ready to prove themselves as a strong team in the AFL. It will be challenging to prove that they’re a top-tier team but Duncan has some good points about the staff and his teammates. The environment is better than ever and Duncan wants to share this with the AFL world.

He said, ‘I’ve been getting it nearly every year I’ve been here, it is what it is, we can only control what we can control. We’ve got some great staff that give us an opportunity to play finals footy most years. We’ve got some new voices and coaches, I dare say there’ll be a few different tweaks and changes, really looking forward to this year and where we get to. I feel like I’m young again with those blokes, it’s a spring in the step, we had great people at the footy club but it was time for change and some new voices and new people around’.

This is huge for the Geelong team because if a leader like Duncan believes in the team this heavily, you can expect that the rest of the squad will follow in his footsteps. There are many youngsters on the squad who will look forward to working with Mitch since he is a respected member of the Geelong system.

Geelong’s front office is committed to win

The club is ready to prove itself at the top tier of the AFL. They’re looking to sign the best players possible to the team which shows that Geelong is ready to contend with the best. With the weapons they have on the team now, you can expect that Duncan and the rest of the team will perform at their best level possible.

When you look at their 2019 and 2020 performance in the trade market, they managed to get Isaac Smith, Shaun Higgins, Jeremy Cameron, and Jack Steven. They have proven that they want to win so the team on the field will have to step up. The coaching staff will also play a big role in this and Chris Scott is primed to stay there for a long while.

Duncan has supreme potential to become a top leader for the team. He is already leading by example with his performances on defence and he has a solid presence in the locker room. That kind of well-rounded ability is rare in players but Duncan has all of the necessary characteristics to pull it off.

Duncan is motivated to help his team perform

If you watched the 2021 season, you will probably know that Duncan was sidelined with a nasty concussion that only held him to 13 games. This year, he is ready to prove himself as a top-tier defender again after missing a significant chunk of time in the previous season.

Duncan feels like he’s in a new club which might sound bad but he assures everyone that he’s pleased with how Geelong’s offseason turned out. He has always batted for his team’s chances of winning the trophy every year. The 2022 season looks like a huge chance for the Cats to contend for the trophy, therefore the squad will be confident to perform with Duncan’s help.

It will be interesting to see how Duncan will lead his teammates this season since he is seen as one of the leaders. The coaches are relatively new to the team as well which means that someone like Duncan will have to prove his worth even more. It will be an exciting 2022 AFL season for Geelong especially if they tap into their potential. There will be pressure but it looks like they’re ready.
