Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 uses MediaTek Snapdragon MT6795T chipset and runs on the Octa core, 2 GHz, Cortex A53 processor. Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 uses MediaTek MT6797 chipset and runs on the Deca Core 2.1 GHz processor. More cores mean more multi-tasking. Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 uses PowerVR G6200 for graphics whereas Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 uses Mali-T880 MP4 for graphics

Software:

None of the devices run on the latest Android Nougat (7.0) Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 runs on older Android Lollipop (5.0) with its own UI MIUI v7 on top while Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 runs on Android Marshmallow (6.0) with MIUI v8 on top. Xiaomi Redmi Note comes with dual space.
