Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Imran Ahmed has called for intensifying relief distribution activities by coordinating to stand by the flood-hit people. The minister said various government agencies, including the army, have already been widely praised for working together to rescue and rescue the victims. Imran Ahmed said that assistance would be provided by listing the flood victims as per the instructions of the Prime Minister.
He made the remarks at an exchange meeting with the upazila administration and Awami League leaders at the Jaintapur Upazila Parishad auditorium in Sylhet on Tuesday (June 21) afternoon.
Speaking as the chief guest, the Minister for Expatriate Welfare said that leaders and activists of government organizations as well as Awami League and its affiliated organizations have stood by the flood victims. At the time, the minister directed the concerned to prepare a list of flood-damaged roads and educational institutions.
In the exchange of views, acting president of Sylhet district Awami League Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury said in a special guest speech, ‘Awami League does not do politics of luxury. Leaders and workers of Awami League do politics for the sake of abandonment. He called upon the people’s representatives to rise above their differences and stand by the aggrieved people.
District Awami League General Secretary Advocate Nasir Uddin Khan was present as a special guest in the meeting.
Jaintapur Upazila Parishad Chairman Kamal Ahmed presided over the meeting. Jaintapur Upazila Executive Officer Al Bashirul Islam, Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Ripamni Devi and Awami League leaders including chairmen of various Union Parishads of the upazila also spoke.
Earlier in the day, the minister visited the flood victims at the Abdul Latif-Julekha Girls’ School in Jaintapur Upazila. A BGB team was providing medical assistance there. The Minister spoke to the responsible officials of BGB and thanked them for standing by the flood victims.
