Visiting New Zealand as a Taiwanese citizen is simple thanks to a mutual visa-exemption agreement between Taiwan and New Zealand.
Taiwanese visitors can stay in New Zealand for up to 90 consecutive days for tourism purposes with the Electronic Travel Authority, NZeTA.
Since October 1st, 2019, it has been obligatory for NEW ZEALAND VISA FOR TAIWAN CITIZENS to obtain an NZeTA prior to travelling to New Zealand. Although it is not a visa, the New Zealand eTA is a mandatory requirement to visit the country, the application is easy to complete online.
The eTA was introduced to strengthen New Zealand’s borders, improve security, and reduce illegal immigration risks.
The government has simultaneously introduced the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL NZ), a small payment to be made by some NZeTA applicants which will go towards protecting the natural environment and contribute to New Zealand’s infrastructure.

Do Taiwanese citizens need a visa waiver for New Zealand?
Visa-exempt nationals, including Taiwanese passport holders, are required to obtain the electronic travel authorisation to visit New Zealand from Taiwan.
The electronic application system for the NZeTA is available online for Taiwanese citizens.
The NZeTA for citizens of Taiwan allows multiple entries during its 2-year validity, granting a stay of 90 consecutive days with each entry. It is only necessary to pay the tourist levy once.
Taiwanese citizens who are transiting through Auckland International Airport on the way to an onward destination are required to obtain the eTA NZ before arriving. However, the International Tourist Levy will not be charged from transit NZeTA passengers.
Those arriving on a cruise (even for a short time) are required to hold a valid NZeTA. However, crew members should refer to their employer for assistance in obtaining a dedicated type of eTA.
The validity of the eTA is 2 years from the date of approval, or until the passport expiry date, whichever comes first. NZeTA holders can stay in New Zealand for a maximum of 90 days at a time.
eTA New Zealand document requirements for citizens of Taiwan
Family members visiting New Zealand together must apply individually for their New Zealand eTA, including minors.
Applying on behalf of other family members is permitted as long as the eTA NZ application form is filled out with the relative’s passport information and personal details.
It is necessary to meet the eTA NZ requirements and present the following documents in order to apply for the New Zealand eTA for citizens of Taiwan:
- Taiwanese passport valid for at least 3 months after the intended date of exit from New Zealand
- A completed online application form for the New Zealand eTA for Taiwan
- Valid credit or debit card to pay the NZeTA and IVL fees
Additionally, applicants are required to provide the reason for the trip to NEW ZEALAND VISA FOR BAHRAIN CITIZENS, as well as any records of criminal history, if applicable. A current email address is needed to receive the approved visa waiver.

How much time do I need to get the New Zealand eTA from Taiwan?
After filling out the application form, and submitting your payment to initiate your NZeTA request, most applications will take 1 business day to process.
Travellers are advised to apply at least 3 business days prior to their departure date, in order to allow enough time in case they are required to submit additional documents.
Upon approval, the NZeTA is electronically linked to the applicant’s passport, eliminating the need for passport stamps at border control.
However, travellers are advised to print a copy of the approved New Zealand eTA from Taiwan to present to immigration officials upon arrival, alongside their passport.
It is necessary to use the same passport to travel to New Zealand as the one used to complete the eTA NZ online application form. Applicants with dual citizenship should keep this in mind.
