Korean Muslim actors are a rarity in the Middle East and Asia, but there is one notable exception: South Korea. Most of the country’s Muslims are ethnic Koreans from North Korea who converted to Islam in China after World War II. There are many Korean Muslim actors, but the most popular ones are Kim Min-seok, who is a member of the boy band TVXQ, and Kim Sung-soo. They’ve both been in numerous movies like “A Thousand Days’ Promise,” “The Princess and the Matchmaker,” and “The Legend of the Blue Sea.”

Kim Min-seok was born in North Korea and moved to South Korea when he was 3 years old. He started his career as an actor when he was in high school. He starred in several TV dramas such as “My Dear Enemy,” “Scent of a Woman (2002),” and “The King 2 Hearts (2010).”

Kim Sung-soo is another popular Korean Muslim actor who has appeared in many movies like “The Age of Shadows (2015),” “Love Detective Sherlock K (2016),” and “Miss Granny (2017).

According to Kim, it was his love for acting that brought him to Islam. He said: “I became a Muslim because I wanted to be able to act better.”

There are roughly 1.3 million Muslims in South Korea, or about 4% of the population.
